BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore City Council on Monday confirmed Richard Worley as the city’s new police commissioner, a leadership change that comes amid an ongoing push for reform of the embattled agency that began after Freddie Gray’s 2015 death. Harrison led the New Orleans Police Department through a similar reform process before moving to Baltimore. While Harrison brought an outsider’s perspective to the job, Worley is a Baltimore native and a longtime department veteran. BALTIMORE (AP) — A fifth teenager has been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that unfolded during a Baltimore block party over the July 4 holiday weekend, leaving two dead and 28 others wounded. Baltimore police announced the arrest in a news release Wednesday morning, saying detectives believe the teen opened fire at several people. The suspect was arrested Aug. 30 on an unrelated handgun violation, according to the news release. The shooting has prompted widespread calls for action amid a spike in youth violence over the past several months. City leaders recently released a lengthy report detailing shortcomings in the police response to the shooting, which is likely the largest in Baltimore’s history.
